How to Obtain an Annulment

Divorce is one way to end a marriage legally. Another way is to get an annulment. Where a divorce decree shows that the couple has dissolved the union and the wedding is over, an annulment indicates that the marriage is over but that it also never existed.

There are three main grounds whereby you can choose to annul your marriage legally. If you can prove that your spouse married you fraudulently, or that there was never any consummation of the marriage or that there was a misunderstanding, you can get the marriage annulled.

Fraud would be a scenario where your spouse married you to get a green card. Or, they may have tricked you into marrying them, or they refused to consummate the marriage. There are occasions where individuals have already been married and entered into another alliance with another partner. These would be grounds for getting the marriage annulled.
