Nevada Slim

1952

A third generation Nevadan and fourth generation rancher, Nevada Slim, (Bruce Matley), was born in 1948 to a pioneer cattle ranching family, which arrived via wagon train in the Honey Lake country of northeastern California in 1863.  Slim’s great grandfather relocated his family to a ranch in the Truckee Meadows, just east of Reno, in 1900, where Slim was born & raised.  He spent his childhood and teen years in the saddle on the vast ranges of northern Nevada, in the hayfields, and engaged in the various tasks associated with ranching.  “Those old range cows” he says, “had to walk a long country mile to make a living in that scrub and sagebrush...but nothing beats the beauty of that country.”

Influenced by his singing cowboy father, he has spent 41 of his 59 years performing in public.  He ranched in Gardnerville, Nevada, alongside his Dad, Wayne C. Matley, and later on his own place in Fallon, NV.

The old home ranch in Reno now lies beneath the Reno International Airport.  Slim's moved on, and resides & sings in Prescott, Washington, venturing forth to perform 100+ dates per year at cowboy gatherings, festivals, country fairs, and in clubs.
